Caicos Weather

As a matter of fact, the Caicos weather and climate is best described as desert tropical, which is reflected in the landscape with many cacti, aloe and other succulents dotting the scenery.

North Caicos is the greenest of all the islands because of the abundant rainfall.

Constant easterly breezes keep life comfortable making air conditioning generally unnecessary except in the summer months. But since that overexposure from the sun can happen quickly, so sunscreen is strongly recommended.

A hat and cover-up for extra protection is advisable. It is a rare occasion to need a light sweater at night. The sun shines 350 days a year with an average temperature of 83°F (28°C).

Surface water temperatures are also warm for comfortable swimming, diving and snorkeling year-round. Late summer months are usually peak hurricane season, however it may be best to visit in the fall, winter and spring. April-June is usually best bet especially since most hotels discount their rates 20-50% after April 15.

The weather in the Caicos Islands is generally warmer with less rain and humidity than its Caribbean neighbours. The average temperature ranges between 85 and 90 degrees (29-32 degrees Celsius) from June to October, sometimes reaching the mid 90’s (35 degrees Celsius), especially in the late summer months.

From November to May the average temperature is 80 to 84 degrees (27-29 degrees Celsius). Water temperature in the summer is 82 to 84 degrees (28-29 degrees Celsius) and in winter about 74 to 78 degrees (23-26 degrees Celsius).

A constant trade wind keeps the climate at a very comfortable level. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30th.

There is an annual rainfall of 21 inches in South Caicos, but as one goes further west, the average rainfall could increase to 40 inches. In an average year the Caicos Islands has 350 days of sunshine.
